A rare opportunity to learn from Chennai superstar, Dr S. Sowmya, this masterclass across four evenings will open up new worlds of technique and mastery to participants.
Dr S. Sowmya is one of the world’s leading exponents of the Carnatic tradition of vocal music. She is renowned for her deeply classical style and for her large repertoire spanning a wide spectrum of composers, including some of the rarest works of the Carnatic Trinity. She is currently the Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr J Jayalalithaa Music & Fine Arts University and a Visiting Professor at The Music Academy, Madras.
This masterclass will cover techniques of vocal signing, adhering to talam, and voice modulation. The participants will learn a carnatic music composition and will be introduced to Manodharma techniques (improvisation). The participants will be given an opportunity to perform the composition learnt at the IPAC Showcase performance concert at the end of their learning program.

Prerequisite: A minimum of six years of formal training in Carnatic vocal music.
