Monash students play with members of Australia's jazz royalty including Andrea Keller and Paul Grabowsky
As part of the 2021 Melbourne International Jazz Festival, MLIVE presents the newest crop of emerging jazz virtuosi alongside their established mentors and peers.
The Monash Art Ensemble (MAE) is a polystylistic ensemble for established and emerging musicians. Its aim is the commissioning, performance and documentation of new polystylistic works of Australian music that explore possible interfaces between musical notation and improvisation; to mentor music students via the engagement of leading practitioners and music staff alongside them in the performance of new music; to engage artistic research to understand and evaluate the challenges thrown up by the creation of new works, particularly in terms of new learnings in improvisation.
This concert will feature a world premiere performance of commissions by Andrea Keller, a collaboration between Cheryl Durongpisitkul and Jordan Murray and a work from the recent CD release Here Now Hear by Paul Grabowsky.
