Paul Van Ross Presents “Mi Alma Cubana”

The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts
Monash University Clayton Campus

$10 - $25

Past Event

Acclaimed saxophonist Paul Van Ross presents his Latin Project, featuring compositions from his album Mi Alma Cubana – My Cuban Soul.

Recorded in Havana, Cuba, in the same studio used by the famous Buena Vista Social Club, Mi Alma Cubana features many heavyweights (Changuito, Yoraldy Abreu, Gaston Joya, Alejandro Falcón) from top Cuban bands Los Van Van, Maraca and Chucho Valdes.

Recreating the Cuban experience, Van Ross collaborates with Melbourne Latin/Jazz greats for his appearance at The Counts. Featuring all original compositions that combine the deep-rooted traditions of Latin America and a contemporary approach to Latin Jazz the group will be exploring Salsa, Cha Cha Cha and Son grooves guaranteed to get anybody moving.

Dancing is always permitted…even if only on the inside.

Paul Van Ross – saxophones & flute
Rodolfo ‘el Panga’ Hechaverria – percussion
Vashti Sivell – piano
Phil Rex – double bass
Damien Ellis – drums
