The high energy rabble paints a hyper-coloured homage to the polyphonic sounds of an era when jazz was king. Modern Melbourne meets the New Orleans old school – frontline horns duke-it-out while the rhythm section cooks up raucous grooves in a neo-vintage stew of pop hooks, trad jazz and straight-up songwriting. This consummate eight-piece band delivers a sound that is brash, brassy and infectious.
The debut full length album from The Royal Jellies “”Burrows St. Poolside””, mixes old school vintage trad jazz with modern pop. Recorded by Marty Brown (Clare Bowditch, Art of Fighting), the Jellies sound combines Hammond organ, banjo and stride piano. Darlings of Port Fairy Folk Festival, White Night and St. Kilda Festival, they recorded with ARIA award winner Clare Bowditch for her release “The Winter I Chose Happiness” and opened for her during an extensive tour of Australia.
The Royal Jellies live show is a love affair with New Orleans trad-jazz. Inspired by the great songwriters and musicians past and present including Louis Armstrong, Tom Waits, Damon Albarn, Neil Finn and Brian Wilson, don’t miss The Royal Jellies Courtyard party.
