The National Boys Choir of Australia presents their annual Winter Concert at Robert Blackwood Hall.
Featuring Vivaldi's Gloria in D performed with a 100 voice Men's and Boys choir and orchestra, the concert will also showcase other repertoire from the Performing Choir, Training Choirs and Young Men's Choir.
The choirs of the NBCA are excited to present our Winter Concert at Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University on Saturday 22 July at 7:00 pm. This is a return to an evening concert, and also the first time we will have engaged an orchestra since 2019. The feature work will be Vivaldi’s Gloria in D, to be sung by the combined Performing Choir, Young Men’s Choir and Old Boys, with solos from Mandy Lyn Brook and Iris Zavou.
Alongside the Vivaldi, the Performing, Training and Young Men’s Choirs will include a wide variety of choral works including classical pieces, folksongs, popular songs, and songs from musical shows. The Performing Choir will present the perennial favourite “For the beauty of the earth” by NBCA Patron John Rutter. We are proud to perform a large proportion of music by contemporary Australian composers including Colin Brumby, Lyn Williams, Dan Walker, Todd McNeal, Stephen Leek and Nicholas Buc. Some of this music was commissioned by the NBCA, and we are pleased to include Ruth McCall’s challenging arrangement of “Waltzing Matilda”, with its multiple voice parts and complex cross-rhythms, Australian Aboriginal themes and language.
