Pianist Hoang Pham performs Mozart's Jeunehomme concerto, matched with a Mozart Symphony, a Bowman premiere, and a Salieri overture.
If a composer didn’t see their 36th birthday, is it right to talk about them as anything other than “young”? We’ll make the exception for Mozart, who in his teens and early twenties was writing symphonies and concerti that his mature contemporaries could only be envious about.
Mozart’s early works belie his years, showing the rarest of intuition and a fluent depth of musical thought that can only be described as genius. In this concert, MCO performs the Symphony No 28 and the Piano Concerto No 9, two works of youth that epitomise the elegance of the Classical period. The concerto soloist is leading pianist Hoang Pham, praised by the Sydney Morning Herald for his “pervasive lyricism”, and “liquid fingering”.
The program also features music by Mozart’s friend and contemporary Salieri; and MCO audience favourite Calvin Bowman, in a new work commissioned by the people of Daylesford.
