Talking Progress: Cold Connections in a Wa®ming World

The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts

FREE TICKETED EVENT

Past Event

A fascinating discussion that uses Antarctica as a jumping off point for discussing the connection between climate, geopolitics and our rapidly changing world.

Antarctica. Cold, distant, forgotten. Yet the continent and its frigid surrounding ocean are intimate to our daily lives. They regulate climate, but can unsettle it profoundly. Ice sheets are announcing themselves by raising sea levels. The so far quiet Antarctic Treaty is suddenly being tested in a connected, warming, profligate planet. And icons from a faraway world are slipping towards their end.

Antarctic connections are especially close for Australians. For the better, for the worse? Co-creators Tom Gutteridge and Steven Chown will work with scientist Andrew Mackintosh, artist Moira Finucaine, policy specialist Elizabeth Buchanan and yourselves, as the audience, to form a picture of the light and dark of our connections to the icy continent’s future.

Bring your curiosity, creativity, and a device to join our interactive discussion.
