Past Event

Mama's love of music and path as a singer was in no small part shaped by her late father's love of music. Two years on from his unexpected passing, in this special jazz set Mama Alto revisits some of the songs that her papa loved most. Her August performance at The Count's will be the first outing of this very special project.

Mama Alto is a jazz singer, cabaret artiste & gender transcendent diva. She is a transgender & queer person of colour, living with disability, who works with the radical potential of storytelling, strength in softness and power in vulnerability. She was recently featured in the Australian Jazz Museum’s Women in Jazz special exhibition.

Her solo performances are critically acclaimed & programmed at premiere venues & festivals around Australia, including Melbourne Recital Centre (VIC), Adelaide Cabaret Festival (SA), Festival of Voices (TAS) & more. She has collaborated with legendary figures including burlesque house Finucane & Smith, playwright Declan Greene and visual artist Brook Andrew. She has appeared with performance luminary Taylor Mac – including as an ensemble member in Taylor Mac & Matt Ray’s “Bark of Millions” currently touring the USA – and with Alan Cumming during his tenure as curator of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Mama Alto is also the co-creator of highly acclaimed variety cabaret “Gender Euphoria,” Australia’s largest ever entirely trans & gender diverse main stage production, which sold out as a headline event of Sydney WorldPride 2023. Additionally, she has worked as a writer, playwright, diversity & inclusion specialist, and advocate. Mama Alto has been recognised with awards and fellowships from the Australia Council of the Arts and Creative Victoria.
