Trumpeter Mat Jodrell is one of the most exciting voices in Jazz today. Internationally recognised, he has collaborated with artists such as Benny Golson, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Carl Allen, Bill Watrous and Gary Bartz to name but a few.
Based in NYC for over eight years, he held a teaching position at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music and was a regular member of many ensembles including Miguel Zenon’s ‘Identities’ Ensemble, Ryan Truesdell’s Grammy-nominated Gil Evans Project, the Jon Batiste Band and many others.
He has performed in many of the world’s most famous jazz clubs including the Vanguard, Blue Note, Dizzy’s and Birdland, as well as touring to many of the largest jazz festivals in the world including the Newport Jazz Festival and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
In December 2021 Mat launched his latest album ‘Grateful’ at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. The album features Jimmy Macbride, Miki Yamanaka, Carl Mackey, Jordan Murray, and Sam Anning. His previous solo releases are ‘Insurgent’ (featuring Will Vinson, James Muller, Sam Anning, Ben Vanderwal) and ‘Echoes Of Harlem’ (featuring Lewis Nash, Frank Kimbrough and Jay Anderson).
Since returning to Australia, Mat has been lecturing at the James Morrison Academy and the Victorian College of the Arts, as well as recording and touring with many projects including his co-led group Speedball.
