Monash Academy Orchestra – Adagietto

Monash University Clayton Campus

FREE TICKETED EVENT

Join the Monash Academy Orchestra and conductor Warwick Stengårds for a concert that celebrates the power of music and human connection.

The Monash Academy Orchestra, under the direction of Warwick Stengårds, presents a program that moves between intimacy, transformation and shared experience.

Winner of the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music Concerto Competition, rising talent Alyssa Wong steps into the spotlight for Barber’s Violin Concerto, bringing its soaring lyricism and fiery finale to life.

The orchestra is proud to present the world premiere of Brenda Gifford’s 2026 Ed Byrne Commission, alongside Aaron Wyatt’s Voiceless, written as a personal response to the 2023 Australian Indigenous Voice referendum.

Mahler’s Adagietto – a work of luminous stillness and aching beauty – invites listeners into a world of suspended time.

The concert concludes with Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber, a kaleidoscope of colour and rhythmic vitality that showcases the orchestra’s full expressive range.
