Make a fluffy pom‑pom wattle flower, dress up in a mushroom hat and explore the details of lichen in the macroscopic world of UnderStory, where everything is five times bigger than real life.
Wander the immersive sculptural environment in the foyer, or join the free, drop‑in craft play.
Created by artist Kathy Holowko, UnderStory playfully reveals the ecosystem of the forest floor, where plants, animals, and fungi connect in a dynamic web of energy, life and transformation. It encourages kids to look closely and discover the stories within the interconnected world way down low.
Known for her exploration of the relationship between people, nature and urban spaces, Holowko’s work helps people consider the world as a cyclical, shared habitat.

Family Fiesta, Forest
Part of Family Fiesta 1–4 July. MPAC invites children 0–12 and their families to step into the forest and discover a world of free and affordable events. Explore ancient trees, fungi and the hidden micro-world beneath your feet, and see how everything in the forest is connected. Artists, theatre-makers, musicians and dancers team up with scientists to show you just how wondrous and essential these ecosystems are.
