Melbourne Cabaret Festival Roadshow: Live at The Count's
MPAC unites with Melbourne Cabaret Festival to present Australia's best cabaret talent across five shows in The Count’s this October. The limited season includes drag, jazz, comedy and pop performances.
Feast on a smorgasbord of exquisite cabaret shows, curated by the long-running Melbourne Cabaret Festival. Each show opens with emerging cabaret talent thanks to the Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation. Nestled in the heart of Monash University’s Clayton campus, The Count’s transforms into a cosy cabaret room with full bar with dinner service available.

Alyce Platt is an iconic Australian singer-songwriter and actor who presents her music through the slightly crooked lens of the Indie-pop artist. No Alyce Platt performance is ever the same. She commands a wondrous, varied musical arsenal, playing in multiple moods, configurations and styles. Her original songs, like the artist herself, are quirky, emotive and heartfelt. Alyce Platt always performs with passion and intensity.
Alyce returns from triumphant shows in New York, London and Paris for this special performance, presenting a smouldering jazz infused proposition, with jazz interpretations of her original material as well as selections from the classic jazz and pop song books. Double bass, piano, sultry vocals, dark rooms and strong drinks – in this performance Alyce Platt turns up the heat without breaking a sweat.
Also appearing: Piera Dennerstein
‘My mum thinks I’m cool’
If you have witnessed the wild, cross-genre, on-stage explosions of Piera Dennerstein (Pursuing Pleasure 2024, Blue is the Colour 2022, Finucane & Smith), you have probably wondered who on earth is responsible for this opera singer-turned-cabaret cantatrice. The answer is, in large part, her two equally artistic and eccentric parents.
Call the Doctor! is a tribute to Piera’s biggest fans where she will sing her parents’ favourite songs and share family stories. And if you know anything about the kid they created, you better be ready to be entertained.
Following a decade of operatic training and performance both nationally and internationally, Piera ‘ran away and joined the circus’ in 2018 when she commenced her tenure as a principal artist with premiere cabaret company, Finucane & Smith. From there, Piera has used the versatility of her voice and professional experience to blur the boundary between high and low art everywhere from rural China to Kalgoorlie. Piera is also an award-winning writer and poet and has MCed extensively throughout a variety of performing artforms. For Midsumma 2022, Piera presented Blue is the Colour: a musical and ethnomusicological exploration into jazz and blues and its enormous influence on music today, with associate artist Pamela Christie. In the same year, Piera performed at the Palais Theatre for 4 sold out shows with comedy genius Bill Bailey. In 2023 she performed her most formidable operatic role to date: Poppea in Lyster Opera’s The Coronation of Poppea. Currently, Piera is in her third year of touring Finucane and Smith’s Dance Hall nationally. At the beginning of this year, Piera debuted her first solo show, Pursuing Pleasure, presented by Whitehorse City Council and The Round Midsumma Residency Program, and is looking forward to touring it nationally in 2025.
