Returning to Melbourne after her acclaimed performance at IPAC 2022, Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi is delighted to share her extraordinary skills and insights with Australia’s emerging Carnatic musicians.
A fifth-generation musician of the illustrious Lalgudi bani, Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, daughter and disciple of legendary musician, Lalgudi G Jayaraman, is an artiste who engages both deeply and variedly with her music. As a violinist, she performs solo, duet, as an accompanist and collaborates with artistes across genres. She is also an accomplished vocalist, a composer, and a teacher. With a sparkling four-decade-long journey in music, Vijayalakshmi has been recognized for her music through a slew of awards and accolades.
This masterclass will cover techniques of performing the violin, adhering to talam, and bowing and fingering techniques. The participants will learn a carnatic music composition and will be introduced to Manodharma techniques (improvisation). The participants will be given an opportunity to perform the composition learnt at the IPAC Showcase performance concert at the end of their learning program.

Prerequisite: A minimum of six years of formal training in Carnatic violin.
