Deborah Conway & Willy Zygier: Intimate and Live

Deborah Conway & Willy Zygier have been musicians for more than 40 years, 32 of them collaborating together. During these decades they have released 10 albums, played countless numbers of live shows from stadiums to lounge rooms; recorded a lot of songs, some of which have raised eyebrows, some of which have been played on radio; and produced records, shows, tours and festivals.

There have been gongs along the way; Aria Award for Best Female Performer; Gold & Platinum album Awards; induction into the National Film and Sound Archive; Conway named a Living Legend by the Leaps & Bounds Festival & Rolling Stone Magazine in the same year; 2019 Conway was made a National Living Legend by the National Live Music Awards; 2020 Conway was given a Member (AM) of the Order Of Australia and won the Don Banks Award. In 2022 Music Victoria inducted Conway into the Music Hall of Fame. Weighed down by all these awards they still continue to go out on the road and play shows without attracting too many excess baggage fees.

In 2023 Allen and Unwin published Conway’s autobiography, Book of Life and Conway & Zygier performed a theatrical/musical exploration of the autobiography, Songs from the Book of Life in performing arts centres around Australia.

Composer, singer and pianist, and Monash University Alumni, Hue Blanes is no stranger to Australian ears. The musical savant has graced Melbourne’s jazz clubs for more than a decade, appearing in various trios, duos, curating his own shows and as an original member of Electro Hip-hop outfit, the Melodics. In 2017, Blanes won the prestigious PBS Young Elder of Jazz, received multiple Green Room nominations for his comedy show Hue Blanes and the Moon, and won the 2018 Lucerne School of Music International Jazz Piano competition.

Hue grew up in the small Victorian town of Healesville, where he began his musical life playing local fetes, concerts and festivals. He received a scholarship to study at the Victorian College of The Arts Secondary School (VCASS), and graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Music Performance and the prestigious Billy Hyde Music Prize for outstanding achievement.

Hue’s teachers have included some of Australia’s finest musicians: Bob and Steven Sedergreen, Andrea Keller, Tim Stevens, Tony Gould, and most recently with Fred Hersch and Jason Moran.

Hue Blanes is ‘out of the box’. He has been involved in a myriad of genres and musical projects, all with the ultimate purpose of improving his playing and understanding of music. He writes jazz, classical music, tragicomic songs about love, dying and world conspiracies. This eclectic performer also plays jazz standards, classical scores and spiritual hymns he finds at second-hand bookstores.

An incredible live artist, Hue has played at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Adelaide Cabaret festival.
