Jody Sternberg & David Lewis present: FRENCH IN JAZZ
- Live at The Count's
- The Count’s
The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts
$15 - $30
Paris based Jody Sternberg and David Lewis are back in Australia with another eclectic menu of songs, exploring the rich and enduring dialogue between French chanson and le jazz.
Together with pianist Mark Fitzgibbon on piano, they offer their original takes on the songs of such iconic figures as Michel Legrand, Charles Trenet and Serge Gainsbourg, with Lewis’ melodic, colourful trumpet and flugelhorn interweaving with Sternberg’s warm voice.
Originally from Sydney, Jody Sternberg is a singer and multi instrumentalist whose music blends vocal jazz with touches of folk, blues and bossa nova.
Now living in France after previous spells in Japan and the US, Jody has collaborated with artists including Arthur H, Alain Jean Marie, Marc Collin’s Nouvelle Vague and Morcheeba, notably touring worldwide as their lead singer during The Antidote tour and co writing the single Wonders Never Cease. Her duo album with Jean Marie, Castles in the Sand, released in June 2023, drew critical acclaim including four star reviews in the French music press. Jody will release her next album in spring 2026 on the Bonsai Music label.
Australian born trumpeter, pianist and composer David Lewis is co-founder of the internationally renowned group Paris Combo, with which he recorded nine albums and performed worldwide over a 25 year period until the untimely passing of the group’s singer songwriter Belle du Berry in 2020. Paris Combo have toured Australia six times, including three exclusive performances with guest artists at the 2023 Adelaide Cabaret Festival in tribute to Belle du Berry. Originally travelling to France to study music, Lewis went on to tour and record extensively with African jazz legend Manu Dibango. As instrumentalist and composer arranger he has also worked with a diverse array of Paris based artists including Gianmaria Testa, Arthur H, Maurane, Carla Bruni and, most recently, choreographer Philippe Decoufle.
