Celebrate the next generation of Carnatic vocalists and violinists, inspired and mentored by giants of music at IPAC 2024!

Following an intensive four-day workshop series, Australia’s aspiring Carnatic vocalists and violinists reveal their new skills. A celebration of knowledge shared by two of India’s most inspiring and expert Carnatic musicians, Vijayalakshmi Lalgudi (violin) and Dr S Sowmya (vocal), this showcase will make an enormous impact on Australia’s classical Indian music scene.

Showcasing more Australian talent, this concert will also present the world premieres of two musical works developed under the guidance of another giant of Carnatic music, R.K. Shriramkumar. Following an intensive week of in-person, one-on-one mentoring in September 2023, young violin virtuoso Akshayan Manivannan and vocalist Krishna Ramarathinam were able to continue refining their works under the mentor’s online tutelage.

This concert will mark the first live performance of key learnings for these two emerging talents along with supporting artists from Australia.

Don’t miss this festival of new talent!

Masterpieces of Dikshitar
by Akshayan Manivannan

This version of Shri Nilotpala Nayike highlights Dikshitar’s serene handling of reethigowlai ragam, intact with its authentic suddha dhaivatham prayogams and chittaiswarm passage. This is followed by a magnum opus composition—Shri Valmika Lingam, which showcases a unique, grand vision of kamboji ragam, where Dikshitar masterfully intertwines layam and sahitya within the rarely heard kanda jathi ata talam.

by Krishna Ramarathinam

The concert will feature 3 unique pieces. The first piece is an original composition of Krishna, a Tamil Varnam composed on Lord Hanuman in Ragam Poorvikalyani. The 2nd piece is also an original composition in Sanskrit. It is a Raagamaalika and Taalamaalika piece dedicated to the significance of Sapta (7) in Hindu Dharma. Each line explores a spiritual concept within Hindu Dharma embellished by an appropriate raaga and taala. The concluding piece is a composition by Vidushi Padma Veeraraghavan in the raga Navaneetham.
