Join us as we celebrate 25 years of one of this country’s finest jazz & improvising ensembles, the Michelle Nicolle Quartet.

Bell Award (2017), Mo Award (2001, 2003 & 2004), National Jazz Award (1998) winner, and ARIA Award Nominee (2001, 2004 & 2009), jazz singer and improviser extraordinaire Michelle Nicolle proved herself many years ago as one of Australia’s most gifted and expressive jazz vocalists. Having released nine albums since 1998 and constantly touring Australia and Internationally to critical acclaim – performances including Tokyo Jazz Festival, Jarasum Jazz Festival (South Korea), North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), Asia Pacific Festival (Russia), Prague Jazz Festival (Cz Republic), University of North Texas, Kulak’s Woodshed (LA) The Blue Building (NYC).

Known for her ability to get right to the heart of a song, as well as being an in the moment improviser, Michelle has continually developed and nurtured her art form with the help of her quartet: Geoff Hughes (guitar), Tom Lee (bass) and Ronny Ferella (drums). Regarded as one of this country’s finest jazz & improvising ensembles, the Michelle Nicolle Quartet are celebrating their 25th year together.

For this concert Michelle will showcase her original songs from the Michelle Nicolle Quartet’s 10th and latest ABC Jazz album, 10 – Michelle Nicolle Live at The Jazzlab. Some of these songs could easily fall in the Great American Songbook, others could only have been written today. This is a rare chance to hear some of the finest original Australian jazz compositions going around and also some classic repertoire that the Michelle Nicolle Quartet have performed over the last 25 years.
